The Holy Spirit's Response to My Trying to Figure it Out
From my Listening Journal
I often sit with a pen and an open journal, listening. In my willingness to sit in silence, the Holy Spirit speaks truth, guidance, and encouragement so rich and true, it’s sweet to my ears even when a correction.
Recently, however, I found myself swirling in questions and ideas and frustration. I had let myself get overwhelmed when I focused on all that needed to be done instead of trusting His moment-by-moment leading.
Ever so gently, I felt His nudge to sit still. To stop moving, stop striving, stop trying to figure it out.
“You’re making it too complicated,” He whispered.
So, I sat in the little rocker in the corner of my office and grabbed a journal and pen. Taking a deep breath, I released all of my questions and ideas. I smiled as I recalled the many times this beautiful Triune-God had proved Himself good and faithful.
And I listened.
“Oh, how you ponder. How you contemplate. Rest, my child, in Me. Rest in My love and sovereignty. Not to be lazy, but to loose the bonds on your heart and mind—to know and see and hear Me clearly.
“Rest. Believe… yes! But in My rest.”
Truly, in a moment, the angst I had been feeling for days drained from my mind and body. As I continued to listen, savor, and obey His words, He lit my path one step at a time, and I watched Him do more than I could have imagined.
If you find yourself in a swirl of questions, trying to figure it all out… here’s a gentle reminder: God knows the way through, and He wants to lead you. Find a quiet spot to simply be with Him. To be willing to hear what He wants you to know. It’s the best strategy I know!

Beautiful, Amy. I love when He speaks in the midst of chaos. It's a good reminder to slow down.
